Offermoord's Beacon. by LiamHamilton Offermoord's Beacon. by LiamHamilton
I was heavily impacted by this terrifyingly haunting picture by :iconoffermoord:
There's something about what I interpret as a beaming, vibrating, growing? abyss just out of sight behind the tree, so I made my own version of this.
A tribute of sorts, it didn't turn out quite as ominous as the original but here it is.

Lovely tribute, it's a thrill seeing artists I like so much work off each other like this :D

Hell yes, it can really be an endless loop of trading artistic sustenance! And Offermoord in particular's got such a brutal flow of work and ideas, ripe for inspiration.
And thank you for the kind words. (:

Hm, I see the horizontal line(s) in the middle as a kind of water surface line, everything below that being underwater.

So.. it could be some kind of malignant growth in a sewer. Growing slowly, spreading upwards, reaching for the light it senses through the manhole cover up above.

Though my very first association wasn't as sinister. I saw it as a small island (with a tree covering most of it) in that lake where the 'lady in the lake' lives in the King Arthur myth.

In any case it's an interesting reimagining of offermord's original. :D

It's always a treat to read your analysis. (:

Yeah I was going for what might look at first glance as a water reflection but isn't really.
Someone IRL remarked that it looked to have its own gravitational pull at the center, though I see what you mean about the sewer(pipe).
I agree that it doesn't look sinister, which was my intent given the original :D so I might have to try again! I'm used to it though, my images rarely come out as intended.
It does look to be spreading though, definitely.

When you said 'gravitational pull', I had to think of the engine room of some warp-drive capable spaceship, that thing in the middle being the drive core. I imagine it being in constant looping motion, folding in on itself like some timelapse film of a flower blooming/growing

(Though I do seem to say that often when commenting on abstract pieces, hehe)
